NEW YORK - Brazen thefts continue to happen across the country, this time at a Mitsubishi dealership in New York City. The thieves broke into the key lock boxes on the side of the cars, and drove off the lot with 20 cars such as Acura, BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi.
NYPD believes some of the vehicles will end up sold overseas, but the majority would be used for robberies around the city.
Employees at the dealership didn’t know the vehicles were stolen until the following Monday morning. The method of key control used in this situation would appear to be the lock box on the window of the vehicle. Unfortunately, past events have occurred at other dealerships with the same method of securing the keys, which many thieves have been able to find out how to easily break into them, and steal the car.
